Women have made strides toward greater political representation, but the gender disparity in public office persists and there is much work to be done to achieve equal representation.

Women elected to leadership positions here in the Capital Region will share their stories, the obstacles they've faced and how they hope to advance women's participation in politics to help advance gender equality at the Women Who Lead: Women in Politics breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 9 at the Hearst Media Center.

Confirmed panelists:

- 1st District Albany County Legislator Carolyn McLaughlin, who also previously served 3 terms on the Albany Common Council, including as president of that body from 2010-2017.

- Troy City Council President Carmella Mantello, who is completing her third and final term as City Council president, and has previously served as a member of the city council.

- Schenectady City Council President Marion Porterfield, the first Black woman to serve as the body’s president. She also was the first Black woman to serve on the city council when she first took office in 2012.

Coffee and breakfast snacks will be served. Space is limited, pre-registration is required, and safety is a top priority. All attendees will be required to show proof of COVID vaccination upon entry.
